On the road again!

Road Trip!

On Thursday we started a very ambitious road trip to Texas! I know we are crazy. We visited with good friends on the weekend in Arizona and then went on to Pecos, Texas. On the way we stopped at the Kartchner Caverns in Arizona and Rockhound State Park in New Mexico.

We started out our trip visiting with the Roberts. The kids got along famously. They had a boat race, swam in the Kiddie pool, played in the backyard, played on the on the Wii and the Computer, and had fun playing with cars and polly pockets and watching movies. They managed to make a huge popcorn mess but swore that they didn't have a food fight. Jay and I enjoyed staying up late and talking and laughing with Steve and Sue. They took us to a Ghost town in the Superstition Mountains and we went on a train ride and a mine tour and tasted Prickly pear cactus fudge, which was surprisingly delicous.

Next was the Kartchner Caverns. The whole time that we were in the caverns JJ was telling me how cool it was that we were underground. Audrey got to hold the flashlight on some "Cave Bacon" to show it's striated pattern. Chris got Jay kicked out after about twenty minutes because he was too loud to enjoy the quiet of the cave and then after he left Kaylee spent the whole rest of the time asking for him. I am surprised that they didn't try to kick her out too.

At Rockhound State Park the kids loaded their pockets with rocks for Aunt Jill. They had a great time comparing shapes and colors of the various brown, orange, red, and grey rocks. Kaylee wanted to put something in her pocket but didn't quite get the concept because she picked up some sand from the parking lot and tried to put that in her pocket, it was not going to work. Their was a playground at the camping area of the park and so we played for awhile. Chris enjoyed the slides and the stairs.

And now we are in Pecos waiting to get the day started. When Chris wakes up we will get going. We got here so late it was early and for the first time in years I had to wake the kids when 9:3o rolled around!
